Idea: Newspaper Post-its
I don’t know how widespread this idea is, but it can’t be original to Lincoln. Every so often, the city newspaper attaches a classy-looking post-it style advertisement to the front of its home editions.
These removable mini ads are 3-inch by 3-inch square, two-color to full-color, and are used by a wide range of businesses. I’ve seen them promote a college savings plan, sell window replacements, announce grand openings and sales, hawk auto services and tires, and so on.
Most often, the ad’s backside is blank, but some have printed information. The light application of glue over the entire back makes the note easy to lift off the newsprint without tearing the page, yet the mini ad itself is durable.
If you’re looking for yet another way to spread your advertising message, think about testing a front-page newspaper post-it mini ad.

Where do you order something like this?
The post-it example I refer to is an advertising format offered by the local newspaper, the Lincoln (Nebraska) Journal-Star. It’s used repeatedly for all types of businesses, so it’s likely the newspaper prints them in-house, or could even have an arrangement with a local printer. The paper has artists on staff who can design the mini-ads for the customers. As with other print ads, an advertiser could submit its own artwork made to the size specifications.
I suggest you contact your local newspapers and see, first, if they’re familiar with this post-it format. If they don’t offer it, the idea is floating around the newspaper industry and they can check with a few counterparts in other markets.
Thanks for reading, Brooke.
